Marvão  (P)

Welcome to Quinta! This 5.5-hectare gem sits right in the heart of São Mamede Natural Park, where Portugal and Spain meet. The Quinta that is wild forest vibes, cork oaks, olive trees, and loads of hidden treasures. Explore the forest, stumble upon our secret olive grove, dance with the stone formations, and hang out by the small streams - it's where nature hugs you back. And it's just a scenic 2.5-hour drive from Lisbon, and you've got a two daily buses making it easy to get here daily.
It’s also a place of permaculture magic. We've got a budding food forest, two veggie gardens, and a sweet little vineyard producing natural wines. Want to dive into some gardening, restore old ruins or terraces, or get into natural wine making? You're in the right place!
Meet the gang on the farm: three dogs, two cats, and a wildlife extravaganza - boars, foxes, wild cats, and even mongooses. And the bird life? It's like your own natural orchestra.
The farm is not your typical place to stay: staying in the volunteer room or camping out is for free. And as it’s about community, nature and sharing – all meals are veggie (mostly from our own garden!) and on the house! In return: pitch in with about four hours of shared farm work daily. Typical activities include
- harvesting olives, fruits, grapes
- planting trees and landscaping
-maintaining vegetable beds
- weeding, pruning, landscaping
- natural wine making, vineyard management
Your afternoons are wide open for adventures or just kicking back. Plus, clothing’s optional here, even in winter!

Staying Options:
Volunteer room: within our main house, this cozy room offers a cool sanctuary in the summer and a snug warmth in winter. Plus, you'll find a toilet and shower right next door! Come and make yourself at home and wake up to a view over the olive grove behind the house.
Tents: Feel free to choose your spot across the property! Whether it's the tranquil hideaway by the waterfall, a corner just behind the house, or any of our numerous terraces. Wake up to stunning vistas of the São Mamede Mountains from many spots around here, or wake up to the sound of running water!
Host Info:
You'll find me, Stephan, your host on the farm. I'm originally from Germany but have spent most of my life living in various corners of the world (UK, Spain, Belgium, Hong Kong, …). This farm is very much a queer space. I often have visitors and friends over, so it's always also a very sociable place to be. Running the farm is a major hobby in itself, and I love cooking and wine. Most meals are shared, and all food is vegetarian (or vegan). My background is in academia, and I started this farm and community project in 2021. I also run a natural wine project and a nearby vegetarian café and guesthouse (just across the border in Spain, in fact!).

To stay, please contact me directly. I'm eager to get to know you better, and personal connections matter a lot to me. That's why I'd love to set up a FaceTime, Zoom, Whatever chat with you before accepting a request – and answer any questions you may have. No strings attached!
